FERRIDAY — Two unrelated shootings — including one that started over a plate of food — in Ferriday Sunday led to the arrest of seven Miss-Lou residents all for attempted second-degree murder, as well as additional charges.

The first shooting occurred at 2:45 a.m. Sunday at a Ferriday nightclub where a group of residents had gathered for a birthday party, Ferriday Interim Police Chief Derrick Freeman said.

Kimberly Townsend, 40, of Ferriday, was apparently eating a plate of food when Ferriday resident Donald Collins came up to her and took some food from her plate, Freeman said.

The two began arguing inside the nightclub, and the argument spilled out into the parking lot, where George Campbell, 38, eventually became a part of the argument.

At some point, Jonterius Townsend, 17, gave a gun to Campbell who began to fire shots at Collins.

“Campbell fired shots and made contact with Donald Collins as he was trying to run away,” Freeman said. “Collins was shot in both of his arms.”

Collins was transported to Riverland Medical Center, where Freeman said he refused medical treatment and eventually checked himself out.

Jonterius Townsend, 9271 U.S. 84, Ferriday, was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and disturbing the peace.

Kimberly Townsend, 9271 U.S. 84, was arrested and charged with principal to attempted second-degree murder and disturbing the peace.

Campbell, 554 W. Stiers Lane, Natchez, was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, disturbing the peace and a bench warrant for failure to pay judicial probation fees for stolen property.

All three suspects were transported to the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility, where they remained as of Monday evening with no bond.

Later that day at 11 a.m., Freeman said another shooting took place on Great House Street in Ferriday.

Jessie Caston Jr., 23, of Natchez, received a call Sunday morning in which someone told him the mother of his children was going to jail, Freeman said.

“Caston wanted to check on his kids and went to the house on Great House Street, where he came in contact with the gentleman living with the mother of the children,” Freeman said. “And apparently they had a little history.”

Jarvis Harris, 26, of Ferriday was inside the house, and the two began arguing, Freeman said.

“At some point, a gun became involved and Caston started shooting at (Harris),” Freeman said. “(Harris) ran back into the residence, and the two began shooting at each other while there are kids in the trailer.”

Caston Jr., 23, 144 N. Shields Lane, was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder (three counts), discharging a firearm in city limits, disturbing the peace, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated assault.

Harris, 212 Great House St., Ferriday, was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, discharging a firearm in city limits and disturbing the peace.

Freeman said two other suspects, both from Natchez, were in the car when Caston arrived at the Great House Street home.

Latoya Boykin, 26, 601 Old Washington Road No. 11F, Natchez, and Ketron D. Lutcher, 31, of the same address, were both arrested and charged with principal to attempted second-degree murder.

All the suspects were transported to the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility, where they remained as of Monday evening with no bond.

Freeman called the Sunday shootings “senseless” and warned local residents from continuing similar types of behavior in Ferriday.

“We have a zero tolerance when it comes to these types of senseless or any kind of shootings,” Freeman said. “We’re here for the safety of this community, and behavior like that will not be tolerated.”
