NATCHEZ — A Natchez man died Wednesday night shortly after being shocked with a stun gun by an Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputy during a traffic stop for reckless driving.
Tyrone Davis failed to comply with an ACSO deputy during the traffic stop near Robert Lewis Middle School at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.
“It was an incident where a suspect refused to comply with the officer and was Tased because of it,” Mayfield said. “He passed shortly after that, but we don’t know what exactly caused him to die yet.”
Mayfield said the ACSO would conduct a full investigation into the situation and, per departmental procedure, had contacted the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent investigation.
Mayfield said he wouldn’t release further details regarding the incident until the investigations were complete.
Adams County Coroner James Lee declined to comment on the incident until receiving autopsy results from the state crime lab.
