NATCHEZ — Services for Powell Richard Vestal, 89, of Vidalia, who died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Ron Ledford officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Vestal was born April 30, 1924, in Strong, Ark., the son of Evan and Mary F. Vestal.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a mason. Mr. Vestal worked for International Paper Company for 43 years. He served his country as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a skilled carpenter and gardener.
Mr. Vestal was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard C. Vestal and Aaron E. Vestal; one brother, Ray Vestal; one daughter-in-law, Mary Vestal; and one great-grandson, Dakota Brasher.
Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Vestal of Vidalia; one daughter, Linda Jamison and husband, Dale, of Vidalia; one son, Terry Vestal of Vidalia; two daughters-in-law, Kaye Vestal of Natchez and Sue Vestal of Vidalia; grandchildren Christina Harrison and husband, Lance, of Memphis, Tenn., Tracey Paul and husband, Tracy, of Memphis, Dawn Rymer and husband, Lionel, of Vidalia; Monica McMullen and husband, Michael, of Vidalia, Ted Vestal and wife, April, of Theriot, La., Tim Vestal and wife, Bridget, of Cutoff, La., and Amanda Mullins and husband, Jimmy, of Vidalia; two sisters-in-law, Sally Vestal and Dorothy Manley and husband, J.I., both of Bastrop, La.; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lionel Rymer, Michael McMullen, Jimmy Mullins, Darrell Boles, Ted Vestal and Tim Vestal.
Honorary pallbearers will be R.V. Mize, Ronnie Boles, Larry Boles, Donnie Boles, J.I. Manley and Mike Bennett.
