NATCHEZ — A third man has been arrested in connection with a Feb. 23 East Stiers Lane killing.
Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said Alan T. Thomas, 32, 199 Charles St., Petal, turned himself in to NPD this morning. Thomas, a Natchez native, was charged with murder.
The charge is connected to the shooting death of Terrence Thornburg, 20, who died after he was shot in the back of the head at his residence on East Stiers Lane.
Two other men Maurice Davis, 22, 165 Tubman Circle, and Jhakeel Q. Hawkins, 20, 29-B 1/2 Brenham Ave., were charged earlier in the case.
Police believe the three men went to Thornburg’s residence to rob him because Davis lost money to Thornburg in a dice game.
“I think it lit his fuse when he lost money to Thornburg, and (Davis) wanted to go rob him,” Ford said. “He pretty much got these guys to go with him, and the robbery didn’t go the way they planned.”
The robbery turned sour when a fight broke out and ended with Thornburg fatally shot. Police have not determined which man shot Thornburg.
“I do know all three of them are involved in it, and they went there together to rob (Thornburg),” Ford said. “I don’t know which one actually pulled the trigger, but I do know there was an altercation that took place.”
After the shooting, Thornburg’s family reported more than $1,100 in cash was missing from the house.
Thomas, Davis and Hawkins are being held without bond in the Natchez City Jail.
