FERRIDAY — Services for Woody Judson Bender Jr., 88, of Lake St. John, who died Monday, April 7, 2014, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ferriday First Baptist Church with the Rev. Josh Morea officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.04:10 Woody Bender obitpic

Visitation will from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Bender was born July 15, 1925, the son of Woody Judson Bender Sr. and Ernestelle K. Bender.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ferriday.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the World War II.

Mr. Bender and his wife Aline were among the founders of Huntington School of Ferriday and avid supporters of the Concordia Parish 4-H. He was also a lifetime member of Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association and Louisiana Farm Bureau.

In 2004 Jud and Aline were King and Queen of 2004 Crew of Lake Saint John Flotilla.

He as an avid farmer and rancher on Lake Saint John for over 45 years. He treasured his home that was built in 1852 and took pleasure in the history of Lake Saint John, but more that anything he enjoyed his three girls and their families. He loved his friends, church family and being involved in the community.

He also faithfully watched The Lawrence Welk Show every Saturday night.

Mr. Bender was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Aline W. Bender; and his parents.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Townsend and husband, Kenneth, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Seresa Corbin and husband, Bill, of Baton Rouge and Ann Miller and husband, Randy, of Lake Concordia; four grandsons, Woody Townsend and wife, Melissa, of Ferriday, Dustin Miller of New Orleans, Wil Miller and wife, Kylie, of Lake Concordia and Lee Corbin of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Anita Brewer and husband, Jay, of League City, Texas, and Lani Litchfield and husband, B.J., of Shreveport; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are grandsons Woody Townsend, Dustin Miller, Wil Miller, Lee Corbin, Jay Brewer and first cousin Dr. Mack McDonald.
