Vidalia — A Vicksburg woman was arrested Monday night after she allegedly spit on Vidalia police officers who were responding to a public intoxication call at Sonic Drive-In.
Cheryl M. Mejia, 45, 375 Dudley Road, Vicksburg, was arrested and booked on charges of disturbing the peace (public intoxication), resisting an officer, battery of a police officer and possession of schedule V controlled dangerous substance.
Vidalia Police Chief Arthur Lewis said officers were dispatched to the Sonic at 8:35 p.m. Monday after the restaurant manager called saying she was worried for Mejia’s safety.
“The manager was scared she was going to wander into the street and get hit by a car,” Lewis said. “When officers arrived on scene, (Mejia) appeared to be intoxicated.”
Lewis said Mejia began arguing with the officers, saying her boyfriend dropped her off and would be returning to pick her up.
As the officers went to place Mejia under arrest for public intoxication, Lewis said she spit on the officers and resisted arrest.
Mejia was transported to the Concordia Parish jail, where she remained Tuesday evening with no bond set.
