Weekend Ticket: Painting, Pilgrimage headline upcoming weekend

NATCHEZ — Spring Pilgrimage is nearing the end of its season, but locals and visitors have one last weekend to take advantage of Pilgrimage and a variety of other events this weekend.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast through Sunday, but partly sunny skies could peek through during the upcoming weekend.
Arts Natchez
Artist Susan E. Jones and Arts Natchez will host a paint along class from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the gallery located at 425 Main St.
Jones will lead a “follow the leader” style class, where she said students will paint along with her as they work to replicate a painting called “High Cotton.”
“We’ll paint together for a while, and then I’ll take a break and come around to work with each student individually,” Jones said. “I don’t want to impose my style on anyone, because everyone has their way of doing something, but sometimes you just need a little help getting back on track.”
Jones said the class is perfect for someone wanting to express their creativity through painting or even for an artist looking to pick up new techniques.
“I have been painting my entire life, and I still attend six workshops a year because you never stop learning,” Jones said. “I always say everyone is born an artist, but they start pushing it down or hiding it around 10 or 12 years old.
“What I’m trying to do is reintroduce people to their creative spirit and with a little direction it will come out a lot faster.”
The cost to register is $35, and preregistration is preferred as only 21 spots are open for the class.

Friday forum
This week’s topic includes Natchez Festival of Music artistic director Jay Dean discussing the various upcoming events.
The weekly forum begins at 8 a.m. at Natchez Coffee Company.
Kitten adoption day
The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will host a kitten adoption day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Natchez Mall near the theater entrance.
The price of adopting an animal — $35 for two kittens and $25 for one kitten — incudes spaying and neutering costs.
