NATCHEZ — Cable ONE customers lost 15 channels — including Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and TV LAND — Monday night as a contract between the cable company and a network provider expired.

Cable ONE and Viacom, a mass media company based in New York, had been negotiating an extension of its contract for two months to continue carrying its 15 networks, which include BET, Centric, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2, MTV Hits, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Nick Teen, Nick Toons, Spike, TV LAND, VH-1 and VH-1 Classic.

Cable ONE serves 9,843 customers in Adams County and Concordia Parish.

Cable ONE President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Might stated in a press release Monday the cable company decided to let the channels go based on Viacom’s “unrealistic demands.”

“Despite the fact that viewing is down on 12 of Viacom’s networks, some by as much as 30% since 2010, Viacom demanded an increase greater than 100 percent to carry all 15 of their channels,” Might stated. “Based on Viacom’s unrealistic demands, their declining network ratings and customer feedback, Cable ONE let these networks go and expects to add many highly-rated networks customers have been requesting and expand the carriage of others.”

Channels that will be added to the Cable ONE line-up include BBC America, Sprout, The Blaze, Hallmark Channel, National Geographic, Investigation Discovery, TV One, Sundance and more.
