NATCHEZ — A prayer vigil will be hosted at 6 p.m. today at the flagpole in front of Adams County Christian School for the families of Tyler Brumfield and Nikki Worthey.

Brumfield died Sunday evening in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 61 South. Worthey was in the passenger seat of Brumfield’s vehicle and was airlifted to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria with severe injuries.

Brumfield graduated from ACCS in 2012 and was a student at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez.

Natchez resident Jody Stevens, who attends Springfield Baptist Church where Brumfield played youth softball, said she reached out to the families involved to seek permission for the vigil.

Stevens and her husband, Charlie, grew close to Brumfield during his time at the church.

“You never saw him without a smile,” Stevens said. “He was just a wonderful young man who had the best heart.”

The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
