NATCHEZ — Natchez police are investigating a Thursday afternoon shooting on Watts Avenue that reportedly stemmed from a love triangle.

NPD Lt. Craig Godbold said a woman reportedly shot at a man shortly before 1 p.m. in the 200 block of Watts Avenue after the man stepped in between two women reportedly arguing over him.

Godbold said the victim claims he was shot but has no visible injuries.

The shooting happened after a separate fight drew a crowd on Watts Avenue, where the two women and the man saw each other.

Preliminary investigation indicates one of the women shot at the victim but did not hit him, Godbold said.

Investigators were still questioning witnesses and a suspect Thursday evening in an attempt to sort through what happened, Godbold said.

No charges had been filed as of 5 p.m. Thursday. Godbold said the shooter could face an aggravated assault charge or simply discharging a firearm in city limits.
