Vidalia boys win, girls lose against Jena

JENA — Vidalia High School’s Julius Wilson led the way with 23 points as the Vikings took Jena High School to task in a 77-28 win Saturday evening.

The Vikings jumped out to a 33-16 lead after two quarters, and the Vidalia defense limited Jena to just six points apiece in the final three frames. Isiah Thompson complemented Wilson’s game with a strong night of his own, finishing with 19 points. Deion Brown added 10 points for Vidalia.

Vidalia (14-8, 3-0) will return home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to take on Buckeye High School.

Jena girls 58, Vidalia 37

The Lady Vikings had no answer for Jena’s Kelsey Bradford as the Lady Giants won comfortably, 58-37.

Bradford had a game-high 28 points to lead Jena, which took a 30-18 advantage into the half. Karli Fowler added 11 points for Jena, while Kiana Tolliver finished with 10 points.

Vidalia’s Shermel Bell led Vidalia in scoring with 15 points, but no one else for the Lady Vikings scored in double figures.

Vidalia (1-4 in district) will host Buckeye at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
