Prep Roundup: Jefferson County boys, girls win

FAYETTE — The Jefferson County High School Tigers rallied from behind to take a 49-47 win against Prentiss high School Thursday night in the Jefferson County high School Tournament.
Christian Day led the Tigers with 17 points while Ry’Yale Brown added 16 points in the come back effort.
Jefferson County got off to a slow start as it found itself down 10 points 18-8 early in the game. But the Tigers started to warm up, gradually forcing themselves back into the game.
The Tigers outscored Prentiss 12-10 in the second quarter to be down just 28-20 at halftime and taking the lead for the first time in the third quarter as they only allowed Prentiss to score five points.
The Tigers put up 18 points, their game high, in the third quarter that gave them a 38-33 lead. Though they were outscored 14-11 in the final quarter, their third quarter performance was enough to hold on for the win 49-47.
Hinds County boys 70, Amite County boys 28
FAYETTE — The Hinds County High School Bulldogs pummeled Amite County with a 70-28 win in the Jefferson County High School Tournament Thursday.
Hinds was solidly in control throughout the game as they led 18-3 after the first quarter and only got better from there, scoring 22 points in the second quarter and 24 points in the third.
Hinds slowed things don in the final quarter a they scored just six points while allowing six points before taking the 42-point win.
Jefferson County girls 52, Prentiss girls 44
FAYETTE — It was their fourth quarter performance that propelled the Jefferson County High School Lady Tigers to a 52-44 win against Prentiss in the Jefferson County High School Tournament.
The Lady Tigers were behind the entire game before coming up with 22 points in the fourth quarter that blew Prentiss away.
Diamond Smith led all Lady Tigers with 14 points and Dionna Jackson added 13 points in the win.
Hinds County girls 55, Amite County 54
FAYETTE — Hinds County High School snuck past Amite County with a 55-54 win in the Jefferson County High School tournament.
Darrica Harris led Hinds with 20 points as Octavia Barnes and Brianna McCullah tallied 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Hinds stayed in control majority of the game, but gave Amite a chance to come back when they outscored Hinds 22-15 in the final quarter. Hinds was able to slow don the game and pull out the win despite Amite’s late-game rally.
