Humane society unleashes 5K event

The air is crisp, and the trees are ablaze with color. Yes, autumn has arrived here in the Miss-Lou.
What better way to enjoy it than by getting out early with a nice little 5K run/walk on Saturday. The Natchez Adams County Humane Society is hosting its first, but hopefully not its last, Run for the Rescues! 5K.
Runners and walkers are welcome. The fee is $20 to run and $15 to walk if you preregister. If you wait until Saturday morning, the entry fee is $25 for either event. We are also going to do a $1, 1-mile fun run for children under the age of 5.
We will start the race at 392 Liberty Road in front of our current shelter at 8 a.m. Parking is available at the Armory, and we ask that you use it. The course runs up the Liberty Road extension/John A. Quitman Boulevard to Arlington, turns and runs down the other side, ending at the construction site for our new shelter.
It will be slightly challenging on the way up, but it is all downhill on the way back. Refreshments will await you at the end.
All participants will receive a T-shirt, and we will be awarding medals by age group.
These are being made possible by our great sponsors.
We are hoping for a great turnout this first year so we can justify doing it even bigger and better next year. We need lots of participation, and volunteers are always welcome.
If nothing else, come on out and cheer on those that are participating. It will give you the opportunity, as well, to see where we are building and review our plans.
As we have said before, there are a lot of really exciting things going on with the Natchez Adams County Humane Society right now. In addition to the 5K, we have opened a thrift store that is in operation every Friday and Saturday on Seargent Prentiss Road, and we will be having photos with Santa on Nov. 23 at the Natchez Mall. All the proceeds from these events go directly into the operating budget, which includes the costs for the all-important life-saving transport program.
So, please, come out and join in for a lot of fun at 8 a.m. Saturday and help us Run for the Rescues!
