NATCHEZ — With nothing left for which to play but pride, Natchez High School senior Revonne Corey said pride is what it’s going to take to win out.

The Bulldogs were eliminated from postseason contention after last week’s 62-36 loss to Brookhaven High School. NHS closes its season out at Pearl River Central Friday, followed by Wingfield High School at home next week.

“We have to finish hard and play hard and give it our all,” Corey said. “It kind of hurts (not making the playoffs), because this is my senior year.”

Corey said he wants to remember his final two games as a Bulldog being wins for his team, and he also said he wishes the season had played out differently.

“I’m hurting,” Corey admitted. “(High school football) is my life.”

Finishing the season strong is the message head coach Lance Reed said he has for his players in these final two weeks of the season.

“It’s not fun for us at this moment, but finishing is important, and I’m proud of the ones making an effort to do that,” Reed said.

Reed said the coaches were working on “everything” in practice this week, and he said he would like to see better execution and strong effort this week from his team. He also said he’ll be looking to let some younger players see action in Friday’s contest.

“We started off the season with some younger guys, but we’ll be playing some guys who didn’t get a lot of time initially,” Reed said. “Those will be the guys still here doing what we want.”

NHS (3-6, 1-4) will take on a Pearl River Central (3-6, 2-3) team whose record is deceiving, Reed said.

“They have the same (overall) record as us, and they’re a good team,” Reed said. “Their record is not indicative of how well they play. They’re going to play hard and be well-disciplined. It should be an exciting match.”

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday at Pearl River Central in Carriere.
