Ford did say the department will have extra patrols throughout the night Thursday.

“All we ask is that people be safe and parents accompany their children if they’re going out trick-or-treating,” Ford said. “They should also make sure whatever candy they’re getting is from a reliable source.”

The annual Trick or Treat for Little Feet Halloween event will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in downtown Natchez.

Merchants on Main, Commerce, Pearl and Franklin streets will be open to hand out candy and celebrate Halloween.

The event is sponsored by Natchez downtown merchants and the Natchez Downtown Development Association and is free and open to the public.

City of Vidalia

Residents in the City of Vidalia are asked to trick-or-treat from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in neighborhoods throughout the city.

The Vidalia Police Department will have extra patrols out during those hours and asks parents to keep children on sidewalks and out of the streets.

Town of Ferriday

Ferriday Police Department Assistant Police Chief Margaret Lawrence said Ferriday residents are encouraged to trick-or-treat from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Lawrence said the department will also have extra patrol throughout the night.

The Town of Ferriday will host its first city-wide “Trunk-a-Treat” event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haney’s Big House on First Street.

Games, refreshments, music, cartoon character guests and a haunted house will be featured as part of the event.

A costume contest with prizes is also scheduled.

Parental supervision of children under 12 is asked.

The event is free and open to the public.
