BILOXI — Cathedral High School tallied 427 yards of total offense and limited Resurrection Catholic School to just 98 yards on offense in a 43-7 blowout win at St. Patrick Catholic School Friday night.
The Green Wave’s Thomas Garrity and Jardarius Anderson continued to put up big numbers for Cathedral. Garrity finished 17 of 28 in passing with just one interception, while Anderson tallied 167 yards on six catches for three touchdowns.
“We went on a three-and-a-half-hour road trip and came out a little sluggish,” Cathedral head coach Ron Rushing said. “We still need to work on everything. We made some mental mistakes, but the kids fought through them. In the second half, we played a lot better. We threw the ball well.”
Cathedral actually trailed early in the game when Resurrection’s Paul Blackwell had a fumble recovery in the end zone to put Resurrection up 7-0 with 5:48 in the first quarter. But the Green Wave came back to make it 7-6 on a 16-yard touchdown reception by R.J. Givens with 3:06 left.
Cathedral took the lead for good with 4:26 left in the second quarter when Anderson caught a 22-yard touchdown pass. Cathedral scored on the two-point conversion when Ishmael Blackmon caught the pass from Garrity.
The Green Wave added another touchdown with 16 seconds left in the half after Garrity connected with Turner Janette on a 7-yard touchdown pass. Cathedral led 21-7 at intermission.
In the third quarter, Cathedral began pulling away, beginning with two touchdown catches by Anderson for 60 and 41 yards apiece. Blackmon got in on the action with a 61-yard touchdown reception at the four-second mark in the third quarter for the Green Wave’s final touchdown.
Blackmon finished with 130 yards on six catches, and Josh Wilkerson had four carries for 31 yards rushing. Christian Jenkins added 49 yards on the ground on eight carries.
On defense, Zach Flattmann and James Alan Coley both finished with seven tackles, and Ty Brown tallied six tackles for the Green Wave. Jame Smilo had five tackles.
Cathedral (4-1, 2-1) will return home next week to take on Stringer High School.
