NATCHEZ — The City of Natchez is encouraging the city’s residents to join the nation in commemorating Constitution Week this week.
Mayor Butch Brown, along with public officials across the country, proclaimed Sept. 17-23 Constitution Week.
It is the 226th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.
Brown asked residents to reaffirm the ideals the framers of the Constitution had in 1787 “by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.”
Patriotic displays by a number of the local patriotic groups, such as the Daughters of the American Revolution, can be viewed around town, Brown said, including in the Judge George W. Armstrong Library and at the Historic Natchez Foundation.
“This is also the perfect time to thank a veteran for protecting our freedom,” Brown said.
