CENTREVILLE — After a tough loss to Trinity Episcopal Day School the week before, Centreville Academy was able to hit several big plays to beat Adams County Christian School last week, 34-12.

Tigers assistant coach Brian Stutzman said though the offense struggled with turnovers and penalties, the team made the plays when it needed to make them.

“We were able to move the ball, but we caught several passes and then would fumble them, and we had several penalties (that affected drives),” Stutzman said. “We would kind of sputter along, but we hit some big plays at crucial times. The kids just executed and made good blocks.”

As Centreville (2-1) gears up for Mississippi Association of Independent School Triple-A opponent Parklane Academy of McComb, Stutzman said not much has changed in the approach at practice this week.

“We’re still just plugging along and working on conditioning,” Stutzman said. “We have a lot of nagging injuries we’re nursing.”

Stutzman said Parklane is a big, physical team that likes to go 50-50 on throwing and running the ball. Though the Tigers are a smaller squad this season, Stutzman said Centreville also prides itself on playing physical.

“We do play physical,” Stutzman said. “The way we practice conditions kids for a tough game, so they’re used to the toughness from practice.”

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday at Parklane.

WOODVILLE — Despite an 0-3 start to the season, WCCA head coach David Wright said he’s not feeling down about his team heading into Friday’s home game against Oak Forest Academy.

“We’re fighting every quarter, and we’re staying in ball games,” Wright said. “We’ve been competitive the last two games, and we’re playing quality opponents who are well-coached. We’re frustrated to be 0-3, but the majority of the teams in Single A would be 0-3.”

And the schedule doesn’t get any easier with Oak Forest being a Triple-A team, but Wright said he has confidence going into Friday’s game.

“They’ll have twice as many kids as us, but we have a good gameplan, and if we play for four quarters, we should do well,” Wright said. “(Jason Brabham) is a great coach, and he gets those boys ready to play.”

Even though it’s Week 4 for WCCA, Wright said he there are still some positions that aren’t 100 percent locked down.

“We’re trying to get on the same page with everyone,” Wright said. “We still have a lot of guys in new spots.”

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. Friday at WCCA.
