FERRIDAY— Louisiana State Police arrested a Ferriday man Monday in connection with a July 15 homicide.
Benny White was arrested in Lake Charles after evading law enforcement for nearly a month, Ferriday Police Chief Richard Madison said.
White will be charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, first-degree murder and seven counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, Madison said.
White was detained by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Madison said.
White’s arrest marks the third of four suspects charged in the shooting, Madison said.
Police arrested Raymond R. Fleming Sr., 25, 728 Lower Woodville Road, on July 31 and Moecke J. Hawkins, 26, 216 2nd St., on July 22 in connection with the death.
Police are also looking for Gary Anderson in connection to the shooting.
The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on July 15 when a group of seven people, including Johnson, was leaving AutoZone on E.E. Wallace Boulevard, Madison said.
Nine shots were fired at the group of seven — four hit the AutoZone building and one hit Ferriday resident Eric Johnson in the buttock, Madison said.
Two of the rounds that hit the building penetrated AutoZone’s walls, triggering an alarm, which led police to the scene.
Johnson died July 22 in Rapides Regional Medical Center from his wounds.
