NATCHEZ — A Natchez resident’s game camera snapped a picture of a suspected burglar Wednesday and eventually led to the man’s arrest.
Natchez Police Lt. Craig Godbold said Shaun Perkins, 33, 31 Roseland Forrest Road, was charged Thursday with burglary after he allegedly stole a generator, weed trimmer and chainsaw from a Magnolia Place residence.
Perkins reportedly took the items from the garage after he pried open the garage door.
Godbold said a relative of the resident provided an image of a man police believe is Perkins and his vehicle captured at the time of the burglary on a game camera.
An officer spotted Perkins driving the vehicle outside the city limits and asked the Adams County Sheriff’s Office to pull over the vehicle, Godbold said. ACSO arrested Perkins for driving with a suspended driver’s license, and NPD obtained a warrant for the burglary charge Thursday.
Perkins was being detained in the Adams County Jail Thursday evening.
Police are also investigating four other home burglaries that occurred on Wednesday on Mount Carmel Drive and Martin Luther King Jr., Bishop and Lumber streets.
Godbold said police have a suspect in the Lumber Street burglary and are investigating the other cases.
Anyone with information about the burglaries should call NPD at 601-445-5565 or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
Crime Stoppers offers a reward up to $1,000 for a tip leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.
