NATCHEZ — Fat Mama’s Tamales was recently recognized by Mississippi Magazine in the “Best of Mississippi” list and by two other organizations for its community service.
The restaurant’s hot tamales made the best of Mississippi list in the magazine. The list is compiled from an annual readers’ survey.
The National Restaurant Association awarded Fat Mama’s the “neighbor award” for the state of Mississippi. The National Restaurant Association and American Express review submissions of association members based on community involvement, public service and overall impact on each submission’s respective community. This is the second year in a row Fat Mama’s has won the award.
The Adams County Board of Supervisors at their July 1 meeting passed a resolution acknowledging Fat Mama’s Tamales and the Krewe of Fat Mama’s for efforts in raising more than $50,000 since 2009 through fundraisers for local non-profit organizations including The Natchez Children’s Home, Sunshine Shelter, Guardian Shelter, the George Armstrong Library, Natchez-Adams County Humane Society and Adams County Search & Rescue and one for-profit restaurant, The Malt Shop, among others. A copy of the resolution is being framed and will be on display at Fat Mama’s Tamales.
