LAKE ST. JOHN — For the 20th year, a parade of boats will fill Lake St. John on the Fourth of July weekend.

Lake St. John’s annual Flotilla will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 6. Boats are usually the main participant, but anything that floats can participate, as long as it can maintain parade speed event organizer Donna Maroon said.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Spokane Resort and runs until noon with a $10 registration per boat.

The parade begins at the north end of the lake, led by Concordia Parish Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick, with the blessing of the fleet by the Rev. Louis Sklar.

Following the blessing, the boats will parade around the lake. Boats will be judged on creativity of the decorations, but no set theme exists this year. Maroon said her favorite boat decoration from last year’s Flotilla imitated the TV show “Duck Dynasty.”

After the flotilla, a fireworks display will be at approximately 9 p.m.

T-shirts for the event are on sale now for $15 each. For more information, contact Maroon at donnamaroon@aol.com.
