NATCHEZ — Three people have been charged and one is recovering in a Jackson hospital after a feud between two families led to two shootouts Wednesday night.
Natchez Police Department Detective Jerry Ford said Marlin T. Harper, 29, 1107 George F. West Blvd., was charged Thursday with aggravated assault for reportedly shooting Joshua L. Beamer, 31, 1223 Daisy St. Beamer is in stable condition at a Jackson hospital.
Ford said Harper’s wife, Claymiko Mays Harper, 38, and Beamer’s mother, Wanda S. Beamer, 47, 1223 Daisy St., were both charged with aggravated assault — manifesting extreme indifference to human life.
Ford said Claymiko Harper filed a report at NPD earlier in the day Wednesday alleging that Wanda Beamer came to a Minor Street residence and assaulted her with brass knuckles, sprayed her in the face with Mace and then jumped on top of her and began hitting her in the face.
According to another report from a witness, Ford said, the witness reportedly tried to break up the fight when Joshua allegedly showed up and held the witness at gunpoint to allow his mother to continue beating Claymiko Harper.
Joshua Beamer also reportedly later sent a text message to the witness saying he was going to shoot at the house, Ford said.
Shortly after 9 p.m., Joshua Beamer and Marlin Harper got into a verbal argument at Daisy Street Grocery, after which Beamer ran back to his mother’s house and got a .380 handgun from his sister’s car, Ford said.
Joshua Beamer then reportedly went to the Harpers’ residence and exchanged fire with Claymiko Harper and Marlin Harper. Marlin reportedly fired the bullet that hit Joshua in the buttocks.
As he was leaving the scene, Beamer reportedly put the .380 handgun in some bushes, where police later recovered it, Ford said.
While Joshua Beamer was being taken to Natchez Regional Medical Center by a family member or friend, Ford said, his sister reportedly called his mother and told her what happened.
Wanda Beamer reportedly then went to the Harpers’ residence and began shooting at the house. Claymiko Harper and Marlin Harper reportedly came outside and exchanged fire with Wanda Beamer.
No one was injured in that shooting, Ford said. He said police recovered approximately 20 rounds from the scene.
Joshua Beamer is facing an aggravated assault charge and is expected to be arrested and charged after he is released from the hospital.
