NATCHEZ — Henry Harris is looking to help throw the City of Natchez a birthday party it will never forget.
And he’s looking for a little assistance in the endeavor.
Harris was appointed as recreation director for the City of Natchez’s Tricentennial Celebration in 2016. He said he plans on bringing recreation activities to Natchez from January to December of that year, but he’s looking to appoint people to help him plan and promote those events.
“I’m tying to see how many weekend events we can bring in here,” Harris said. “We’re trying to lock them in to staying and coming back. I need a chairman of each event, because I can’t do it (by myself).”
Softball, baseball, soccer, tennis and kayaking are several types of recreational events Harris said he’s interested in bringing to Natchez. Harris also said he’s in talks with “Redneck Adventures” co-host Jimmy Allgood about setting up outdoors activities, such as fishing.
“We’re looking to host any type of recreation activity,” Harris said.
Harris said being nominated to head up the recreation planning for the tricentennial celebration was an honor.
“I felt like a very special person, because they could have gotten a whole bunch of guys and ladies to do it,” Harris said. “I want to thank Supervisor (Darryl) Grennell, because I think it was him that put my name in the hat.”
