It’s officially (and finally) springtime in Natchez, and the Ladies of the Natchez Garden Club would like to invite each of you to join us for the monthly membership meeting. At 11 p.m. Thursday, the May meeting will be held at the Historic Jefferson Military College located off of Highway 61 North in Washington. The college’s very own Toni Avance is our speaker for the morning.
With a quick meeting to start us off, an interesting presentation is scheduled to follow. Historic Jefferson Military College’s new historian, Toni Avance, will be presenting period dress and costumes for us to learn more about. Avance has created clothing for Under One Nation, a Philadelphia, Pa., historical theatre, the staff at Fort Frederick in Maryland, and for movies such as “The Patriot and Goliad.” Her presentation will include examples of fashion from 1790-1850. She will explain differences in garments that denote their timeframe and the wearer’s station in society.
After Avance’s riveting presentation, lunch will be provided by the always-scrumptious Bellemont Shake Shop. This meeting’s cost is $12 and reservations need to be made by Tuesday with the Natchez Garden Club’s office.
As always, be sure to bring items for the Stew Pot. This month, we will help them gear up for the upcoming summer months with canned fruit. This is a good way to give back to your community, so be sure to bring these requested items.
Also, we will be collecting personal hygiene products for the Guardian Shelter and need your help is providing them with these necessities.
To reserve your spot, please call the Natchez Garden Club office at 601-443-9065 or by e-mail at ntzgardenclub@bellsouth.net. Be sure to check out our website, www.natchezgardenclub.org, for information about this and all of our upcoming events for the busy month of May! You can also follow us on Twitter and find us on Facebook for more details.
We look forward to sharing this event with each of you!
