NATCHEZ — The man Natchez police officers apprehended Tuesday and believe is connected to the recent downtown burglaries remained in custody, but had not been arrested or charged by late Wednesday.
Kelvin Abraham Jr., 18, 609 Maple St., was apprehended Monday afternoon after a resident inside the North Pearl Street house Abraham allegedly was attempting to rob spotted the man peeking inside, Natchez police detective Jerry Ford said.
Ford said Wednesday the case is still under investigation and that Abraham was still being held for questioning.
Ford and Police Chief Danny White said Tuesday they believed Abraham could be linked to the 12 burglaries in the last three months downtown because of patterns of using a brick to bust the windows of the houses as well as possible DNA evidence from the multiple burglaries.
“It’s still kind of early on in the investigation, but we are making some progress,” Ford said. “I’m looking at possibly (Thursday) for him being charged.”
Ford said Abraham could be held for up to 72 hours without any charges.
Ford said he anticipated that Abraham would be charged with attempted burglary for the Tuesday incident and possibly all the previous burglaries as well.
