VIDALIA — One of two suspects who shot a Ridgecrest man in the arm during an alleged robbery attempt was arrested Thursday on multiple charges including attempted first-degree murder.
Darius D. Johnson, 20, 200 Kyle Road No. G-14, Ferriday, was arrested and charged Thursday with attempted first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and resisting an officer.
The arrest stems from a March attempted robbery of a house on Lemon Street in Ridgecrest.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick said two suspects knocked on the homeowner’s door and told him they were going to rob him.
The owner opened the door and shoved the alleged robbers hard enough to make them lose their balance, Hedrick said.
The man told investigators one of the suspects was wielding a shotgun while the other had a pistol.
As the suspect with the shotgun lost his balance, Hedrick said the firearm discharged and three pellets went into the homeowner’s arm, while the rest went into the door.
The homeowner was treated at Riverland Medical Center and later released.
The suspects fled the scene on foot, dropping a black bag with shotgun shells, the pistol from the attempted robbery and a lighter on Pear Street.
CPSO Investigator Phillip Webber said the pistol, as well as the other pieces of evidence, were sent to a crime lab in Alexandria for DNA testing.
“Regardless of who was using which weapon, they’ll both be charged with the same thing,” Webber said. “We have several (other) suspects and are still waiting on the DNA evidence results.”
No bond had been set for Johnson as of late Friday.
