Prep baseball roundups: Vidalia shuts out Block

JONESVILLE — William Handjis went six strong innings for Vidalia High School as the Vikings shut out Block High School 12-0 Saturday afternoon.
Handjis secured the win, yielding just three hits and three walks to go along with six strikeouts for the Vikings. He also helped his cause at the plate by going 3-for-4.
Kaylin Curry took the loss for Block after giving up eight runs — seven earned — in the first inning against Vidalia. The Vikings touched Curry for seven hits and two walks, and Curry had one strikeout and one hit batsman.
Vidalia’s Roper Craft hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning, and Kyle Coley went 3-for-4 with a double for the Vikings. The Bears’ Trent Coldiron hit a double.
Block (6-11) will host Northwood-Lena Monday, while Vidalia (10-6) will play at Caldwell Parish Monday.
Monterey 20, Harrisonburg 0
Jake Cooper threw a no-hitter in five innings of work as Monterey pounded Harrisonburg for 20 runs Saturday.
A lone walk was Cooper’s only blemish of the afternoon, and he also finished with 14 strikeouts. Harrisonburg’s John Perron took the loss in three innings pitched.
Dillon Smith hit two doubles for Monterey, and Jake Barlow, Hayden Cassels and Kade Passman also doubled for the Wolves. Passman went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Smith finished 2-for-4.
Monterey (14-4) will play at Grace Christian Tuesday.
Franklin County 18, Tylertown 5
Ethan Verduin and Graham Coward both hit home runs in Franklin County’s win against Tylertown.
Franklin County (9-4, 5-0) will play at Crystal Springs Tuesday.
