NATCHEZ — Services for James E. “Uncle Jim” Hawkins, 74, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Hill Baptist Church No. 1 with Bishop Robert Cade officiating.
Burial will follow at Lagrange Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Hawkins was born May 3, 1938, the son of Fletcher and Adline Hawkins. He was a 1960 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School. He was a retired truck driver.
Mr. Hawkins attended the nondenominational Word of Faith Ambassador Worship Center. He confessed his faith in 2006.
He was a New Orleans Saints fan.
Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty J. Miles, Annie B. Hawkins and Mary I. “Mu” Ollie Hawkins; and two brothers, Willie Cage and Johnnie Anderson.
Survivors include one sister, Mattie L. Hawkins of New Jersey; two sons, Vince Johnson of Atlanta and Troy Johnson of Natchez; seven grandchildren; three special friends, Patricia “Pat” Beverly, Maxine Rounds and Alice Farrow; and a number of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Hawkins, Jessie R. Turner, Oliver “Wayne Hawkins, Charles Marsaw, Latrevis Clay and Stephen Riggs.
