NATCHEZ — Services for Adelaide Sanders, 93, of Natchez, who died Friday, March 29, 2013, at Adams County Nursing Center, will be at noon Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Old Washington Road, with the Rev. K.E. Stanton officiating.
Burial will follow at Stampley Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Sanders was born Jan. 14, 1920, the only child of Jack and Mary Ella Langston. Her mother died when she was eight years of age, and she was reared by her late great-aunt, Nancy Wilson. She attended Brumfield School. After leaving school, she worked for the Natchez Steam Laundry.
On Oct. 13, 1941, she married Bennie Sanders Sr. They were married for 53 years and reared eight children. During the marriage, Mrs. Sanders worked as a maid to help provide for her family. She was a devoted mother to her family.
She demonstrated her faith in Jesus Christ daily. She was a faithful member and served as a mother of the church at Mount Zion Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was also a member of the Queen and Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star Inc.
Mother’s livelihood was her passion for cooking and talking on the phone with her many friends.
Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Sanders Sr.; her parents; siblings, Andrew Little and wife, Hilda, Bennie Sanders Jr., Samuel L. Sanders and Willie A. Sanders; and one daughter, Mary L. Sanders.
Her precious memories will live on through her family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Frankie R. Cooks and husband, John, of Natchez; two sons, Ike Sanders and Nathaniel Sanders and wife, Donna, all of Natchez; 10 grandchildren, Christopher C. Singleton, Bambi Singleton and fiancé, Roderick McKnight, Tamba Sanders-McDaniel and husband, Quincy, of Sacramento, Calif., Ike Sanders Jr. of Oakland, Calif., Jason A. Sanders and wife, Latoya, of Dallas, Sandra L. Sanders of the Philippines, Ruby Cooks, Angel Cooks, Jonneeka Bulter and Tarsha Bulter; seven great-grandchildren, Keyanna Hayes, Dominick Bryant, Rayven Blanton, Tyreike A. Singleton, Delmaree McKnight, Zadrain Hooper and Michah A. Sanders; 14 great-grandchildren of Jonneeka and Tarsha Bulter; one great-great-grandson, Kenneth J. Hayes; cousins, Mattie Lewis, Mary G. Johnson and family and Mary Grinnell and family; four wonderful goddaughters, Ruthie Tucker, Ella Griffin, Clora McCelleis and Lucille Bulter; and a number of friends and church members.
