NATCHEZ — The owner of the Under-the-Hill Saloon is offering a reward for the return of two historic items that were stolen from the saloon’s courtyard Wednesday night.

Saloon owner André Farish said thieves took a wrought-iron bench, a bell and the timber attached to the bell that have sat in the courtyard for more than 20 years.

“It was definitely more than one person,” Farish said. “They tore up the courtyard trying to get the bench out. I don’t even see how they got it through the gate, but they did.”

The bench was a gift from David Calcote, Farish said, and is valued at $1,500-$2,000. The bell was purchased by Farish’s father in Church Hill and is worth approximately $500, he said.

“To me they’re priceless,” Farish said.

Farish is working with the Isle of Capri Casino, which has security cameras that scan the area, to see if the suspects can be spotted on last night’s footage. Farish has also filed a police report for the burglary.

Farish said he has not determined the amount of the reward, but anyone with any information about the theft should call the saloon at 601-446-8023.

Anyone with information can also contact the Natchez Police Department at 601-445-5565 or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.

Crime Stoppers offers a reward up to $1,000 for a tip leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
