NATCHEZ — Services for Henry “Doc” Don Mitchell Woods I, 73, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Sterling House of Cedar Hill in Cedar Hill, Texas, will be at 1 p.m. today at Forest Aid Baptist Church with the Rev. James E. Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Henry Don Mitchell Woods I was born June 14, 1939, in Natchez, the son of Joseph Woods Sr. and Juanita Dumas Woods. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age and later joined Forest Aid Baptist Church. He became a member under the leadership of the Rev. Robert Green and faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, dedicated deacon, president of the church club and the church treasurer.
Henry graduated from Sadie V. Thompson High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi Valley State University. He was employed by Natchez-Adams School District and worked at Sadie V. Thompson High School and North Natchez High School. He also worked at Natchez Junior College and Jackson State University. He retired from Natchez High School after 43 years of service.
Henry was united for seven years in holy matrimony with Dorothy Haynes Eppes. To this union, one child was born, Don Mitchell Woods II.
Henry loved coaching track, playing golf and tennis. But most of all, he loved his family and his only son.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Camille Jackson and Gloria Jean Woods; and five brothers, Robert Woods, Abraham Woods, Joseph Woods Jr., Charles Woods and Melvin Woods.
Survivors include a loving and devoted son, Henry Don Mitchell Woods II of Cedar Hill; one sister, Audrey Winful of Albany, Calif.; seven nieces, Janice Herbert and husband, Ronnie, Brenda Ann Brown and husband, Clarence, Shirlean Davis and husband, Melvin, Tondra Jackson, all of Natchez, Angela Presley of Memphis, Tenn., Angela West of Lancaster, Texas and Dr. Candice Winful of Dallas; two nephews, Michael Jackson and Anthony Woods, both of Natchez; and a number of other relatives and close friends.
