KILGORE, Texas — Memorial services for Leslie Louis Rand Sr., 80, of Kilgore, who died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, in Kilgore, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Salvation Army with Major John Queener and Major Earnest Lozano officiating.
Mr. Rand was born July 21, 1932, in Natchez, the son of George and Mildred Rand.
He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry and the East Texas Oil Fields. Mr. Rand never met a stranger and loved all people, especially children. He loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed working with animals including horses, cows and pigs. Mr. Rand served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He will be missed by all the loving family and friends he leaves behind.
Mr. Rand was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George Rand Jr. and Dunbar Rand; one step-son, Larry Griffith; and one granddaughter, Becky Rodgers.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Rand of Kilgore; one son, Leslie Rand Jr.; three step-daughters, Sheila Utzman, Sharon Flournoy Simpson and husband, Willie, and Sandy Shelburne and husband, Randy Sr.; two sisters, Bessie Smith and Elizabeth Emfinger; seven grandchildren, Audra Eades and husband, William, Shawn Glidden, Windy Pettiette and husband, Ricky, Tira Brocato Shelburne and husband, Randy Jr., Teresa Miller, Larry Simpson and Kim Leur; a number of great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.
