NATCHEZ — Services for James Carrol “Catty” Meng, 82, of Natchez, who died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Basilica with the Revs. David O’Connor, Paul Kunnumpurrum and George Pookkattu officiating.
Burial will follow in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Basilica.
Mr. Meng was born March 24, 1930, in Natchez, the son of Lester Joseph Meng Sr. and Sue Marsh Meng.
Mr. Meng was a member of St. Mary Basilica. He graduated from Natchez High School and attended Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Meng was a former president of the Natchez Country Club, the Cathedral School PTA and former chairman of the Natchez Housing Authority. He was a loving husband and father, as well as an avid golfer, hunter, gardener and cook.
Mr. Meng was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Earl and Willie Jaquith; one brother, Lester Meng Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Genena Wadsworth and Carolyn Broussard.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Jaquith Meng of Natchez; four children, Jim Meng and wife, Rosa, of Natchez, Terry Meng Dreier and husband, Peter, of Pasadena, Calif., Tracy Meng Gaudé and husband, Lance, and Paul Meng and wife, Susan, all of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, Byron Meng, Jason Meng, Allie Gaudé, Olivia Gaudé, Lance Gaudé, Amelia Dreier, Sarah Dreier, Clare Meng and Charlie Meng; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Haylee and Rhylee Meng; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Meng of Natchez; two brothers-in-law, Blake Wadsworth of Natchez and George Broussard of Baton Rouge, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Todd Broussard, Stephen Guido, Donald Hicks, Ken Hall, Gregory Meng, Joe Meng, Mark Broussard, Alan Wadsworth, Byron Meng and Jason Meng.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
