NATCHEZ — Services for Dan “Billy” Claiborne, 89, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. James Fallon officiating.
Burial will follow at the Lagrange Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. A Rosary service will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Claiborne was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Adams County, the son of Duncan and Louise Claiborne. He was a former employee of A&P Super Market. He was retired.
Mr. Claiborne enjoyed raising chickens and cattle and farming. He was Catholic.
Mr. Claiborne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosie Lee Nelson Claiborne; one son, Vernon L. Claiborne; two sisters, Annie Ruth Claiborne and Orange Lee Davis; and two brothers, Steve Duncan Claiborne and Theodore Claiborne.
Survivors include one daughter, Dianne Johnson and husband, Roosevelt; four sons, Dan Morrell Claiborne of Jackson, Larry Claiborne, Steve Claiborne and wife, Beulah, and Don Claiborne and wife, Emma, all of Natchez; one adopted son, Kedrich Claiborne of Atlanta; a special son, Reggie Drake of Natchez; one brother, Joseph Claiborne of Natchez; two sisters, Dolly Guyton and Helen Marvel, both of Pasadena, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Clay, Reggie Drake, Charles Green, Lampkin Lyles Jr., Carl Marsaw, George Minor and Dewayne Thompson.
