NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Helen Irene Smith King, 90, formerly of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Silver Ridge Assisted Living in Colleyville, Texas, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laird Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Brewer and the Rev. Bart Walker officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Natchez under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. King was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Jefferson Davis County, the daughter of Clyde Smith and Irene Amanda Smith Smith. She graduated from Natchez High School in 1940 and worked as secretary to the plant manager of Blue Bell Clothing Plant in Natchez during World War II. She was a homemaker and also assisted her husband in his work with Woods Automotive for many years. Helen was a member of Parkway Baptist Church for 50 years where she and her husband, Homer King, served faithfully with their friends in all areas of church life, especially the Senior Adult 5 Department. Helen was a member of the Natchez Garden Club and the Eastern Star.
Always the person to model the saying, “service over self,” Helen faithfully supported her church by her attendance and assisting those in need. She loved nothing better than cooking for and entertaining family and friends. The needs of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were always placed above her own needs.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 63 years, Homer Cassidy King.
Survivors include one son, Melton Cassidy King and wife, Kathy Brown King, of Natchez; a daughter, Andrea King Wilson and husband, Dr. Don Parks Wilson, of North Richland Hills, Texas; four grandchildren, Kristyn King Gray and husband, Jason, of Hattiesburg, Christopher Patrick Wilson and wife, Erin, of Liverpool, N.Y., Ryan Douglas Wilson and wife, Jenny, of Trophy Club, Texas, and Amy King DePaula and husband, Robert, of River Ridge, La.; seven great grandchildren, Mary Katherine Gray, Samuel Parks Wilson, Avery Joy Wilson, Jackson Truett Gray, Parker Douglas Wilson, Jacob Thomas DePaula and Cassidy Reece Wilson; two nieces, Marie King Bailey and husband, Bill, of Social Circle, Ga., and Treva King Sellers and husband, Jim, of Calhoun, Ga., one special friend, Maribell Erwin, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Warren Bailey, Jim Blough, Roy McKinney and Charlie Vess.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult 5 Department and Parkway Baptist Church.
