JONESVILLE — Services for Barbara P. Harp, 76, of Monterey, who died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at her residence after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lismore Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Gray officiating.
Burial will follow at Old Town Cemetery in Haynesville, La., under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Harp was born March 20, 1936, in Shreveport, La., the daughter of Kenneth Maurice “Cotton” Phillips and Laverne Mayo Phillips.
Mrs. Harp was a legal secretary, notary and paralegal in Concordia and Catahoula Parishes for more than 40 years. She never met a stranger. She league bowled for a number of years and loved all sports, particularly tennis. Her friends and family knew better than to call her during Wheel of Fortune or while she was keeping score during a baseball game. Her enthusiasm and love of life will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Mrs. Harp was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Harp and her parents.
Survivors include three daughters, Jon Ann Giblin and husband, Lloyd, of Baton Rouge, Jill Harp and Jeni Jones and husband, Johnny, all of Monterey; one son, Jeff Harp of St. Francisville, La.; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Sherry Gillespie of Jasper, Ark.; and two nephews.
The family extends special thanks to Jim and Joanie Lossin for all of their love, care and support for Barbara for a number of years. The family also extends thanks to Camilla Hospice for their care and compassion during Barbara’s last days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lismore Baptist Church Building Fund.
