JONESVILLE — Services for Carmon Walker, 69, of Jonesville, who died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Grace Home in Alexandria, La., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Jonesville with the Rev. Ralph Webber and the Rev. Huey Tarpley officiating.
Burial will follow at Woodland Mausoleum under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Walker was born Oct. 23, 1943, in Nebo, La., the son of Charlie Floyd Walker and Eula Mae Walker. He was an active member and senior deacon at First Baptist Church of Jonesville.
Carmon received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and later received his master’s in education supervision from the University of Southern Mississippi. Upon graduation from LSU, he went on to become the basketball and football coach for Vidalia High School. He later became the business manager for Catahoula School Systems.
Carmon worked as manager for Norman Haigh, with Haigh Farms. He then was elected Catahoula Parish tax assessor, serving seven terms, six of which he ran unopposed. He had recently retired from that position.
Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Sue Walker; one son, Carmon Matthew Walker; and his mother, all of Jonesville.
Pallbearers will be David Wade, Gary Odom, Jimmy Holland, Mike Davis, Ronnie King and Terry Smith.
