NATCHEZ — Services for Leola Burkhart, 69, of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Natchez, who died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Hospice of East Texas, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Chapel Methodist Church No. 2 with the Rev. Walter Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Company in Tyler.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Burkhart was born Feb. 14, 1943, in Natchez, the daughter of Junius and Augustine Green. She was a high school graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and received her bachelor of education from Alcorn State University.
Mrs. Burkhart was a lifelong of Natchez and a member of Zion Chapel Methodist Church No. 2, serving as president of the Mother’s Board.
Mrs. Burkhart retired from the education system after 40 years of service. She was active with Girl Scouts of America, Housing Authority, Family First as a parenting class instructor and volunteered at the women’s shelter and CASA.
Mrs. Burkhart was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, William Green, Charles Green and Junius Green Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Athena Nicole Floyd of Ruston, La.; five brothers, Edward Green, Melvin Green, Wayne Green, James Green and Robert E. Green, all of Natchez; two sisters, Willie Mae Jackson of Natchez and Cassie Ransom and husband, Henry Jr., of Tyler; and two grandchildren, Francis Floyd and Chassiney Floyd, both of Tyler.
