NATCHEZ — Services for Joseph T. “Joe” George, 64, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Doug Broome officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. George was born July 18, 1948, in Norton, Va., the son of Vernon George and Mildred Macel Robbins George. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Natchez.
Mr. George was conferred with the Chevallier Degree in Demolay. He was a Master Mason 3rd Degree, a member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 2, a York Rite Mason and a member of the Wahabi Shrine Temple in Jackson.
Joe was a former Natchez Police detective and was instrumental in forming the juvenile justice organization in Mississippi. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Joe loved history.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Vernon George.
Survivors include his wife, Becky George; one brother, Laforest George and wife, Jane, of Collierville, Tenn.; one sister, Melody Logan and husband, Robert, of Clinton; two sisters-in-law, Beth George of California and Debra Mullens and husband, Pete, of McComb; father and mother-in-law, John and Pauline Felter of McComb; 11 nieces and nephews, Faris George, Andrew George, Lee Logan, Alex Logan, Reese Logan, Kaitlin Logan, Ryan Stateler, B.J. Stateler, Elizabeth George, Chris Randall and Stephanie Roberts; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews; a special cousin, Harriet Taylor; and a number of other family.
Pallbearers will be Andrew George, Lee Logan, Alex Logan, Reese Logan, Willie Bryant and Jerry Geter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Kerstine, Dennis Rudisill and Ray Baker.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
