Humane society seeks public help

The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will have its yearly membership meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Natchez Convention Center.
The coming year will be a very exciting year for NACHS as we build and transition into the new shelter building.
We have additional goals that include expanding our foster care program and spay/neuter education programs for area schools.
Our community has remained supportive of NACHS even through times when we disagreed on our best direction. Most people simply want to do what is best for the animals, and with that common ground we can work together and accomplish our goals. We were very pleased when many talented people answered our recent call for nominees for new board members and people to serve on committees.
The members will vote to elect six new directors during the annual meeting. The nominating committee has presented for consideration:
-Greg Marshall — writer, motivational speaker and active local youth mentor
-Deanne Tanksley — CPA with extensive experience in not-for-profit organizations
-Susan Callon — educator with many years of past experience on our board
-Sam Gwin — local attorney, writer with special expertise in animal laws in Mississippi
-Bill Burnsed — local businessman and Louisiana resident, active in fundraising and efforts to build the new shelter
-Ashton James — local businessman and active shelter building committee member
The following committees have been activated, and we are thankful for those people that have already volunteered to work on them. We still need more volunteers and will have sign-up sheets at the membership meeting for:
-Education (educational outreach)
-Events and fundraising
-Rescue (animal rescue)
-Fostering program (recruitment, training and support of foster families)
-Cat placement
-Volunteer recruitment, training and scheduling
-Shelter property maintenance
-Note writing and statistics keeping
We hope that you will choose to be an active participant in NACHS during the coming year and that you will join us at our membership meeting.
There will be a cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres.
New and renewed memberships may be purchased at the door.
In order to cast a ballot at the meeting, your membership must have been current on Tuesday.
