NATCHEZ — A Natchez man is behind bars after his brother and sister helped police apprehend him after the man falsely reported he was robbed and was in possession of a stolen television.
Archie K. Doss, 19, 207 Ford St., was charged Thursday with falsely reporting a crime and possession of stolen property.
Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said Doss reported he was hit in the back of the head with a gun while walking on Watts Avenue Thursday and then robbed of a pair of Jordan sneakers and $200 cash.
Ford said Doss’ sister called police after family members reportedly spotted Doss with a television they believed belonged to a neighbor of Doss’ mother.
Doss reportedly told the family members he had bought the television. Ford said his family did not believe Doss, and Doss’ brother retrieved the television from some bushes where Doss had hidden it.
Police were able to trace the television as a rental from Affordable Home Furnishings that was rented by his mother’s neighbor, Ford said.
Doss was held on a $706 bond for the falsely reporting a crime charge and no bond for the burglary charge.
