LAKE ST. JOHN — Officials located the body of Larry Allen, 52, of Pearl, at approximately noon today near the site of a boat accident on Lake St. John that also killed Lake St. John resident Bruce Pickle on Saturday morning, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. David Hedrick said.
Allen and Pickle were cousins, Hedrick said, and both families have been notified. The Allen family has been in the Lake St. John area since Saturday, when they were notified Larry Allen was likely with Pickle at the time of the accident.
Onlookers who witnessed the crash found Pickle in the water after the crash, which occurred at approximately 12:15 a.m. Saturday. He was reportedly ejected from the boat. The witnesses attempted CPR, but Pickle’s body was later transferred to the Concordia Parish Coroner’s Office.
Officials from the CPSO and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries worked the investigation all of Saturday and resumed the search for Allen today following failed attempts Saturday to drag the lake floor.
Hedrick said a truck with crane capabilities lifted away some of the pier debris today, making it safe for divers to search for a presumed second victim after cadaver dogs indicated a body was nearby.
Hedrick said divers first located Allen’s shoe then discovered his body deeper beneath the debris. They have since recovered his body from the lake.
The accident occurred on the back side of the lake, half a mile from Pickle’s house. Both the pier and boat involved in the accident received heavy damage.
Hedrick said it is likely that the men were fishing in their bass boat and headed to Pickle’s residence just a half mile from the accident scene when the boat got too close to the water’s edge and struck the pier. Officials from the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said Saturday that they do not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved.
