NATCHEZ — Approximately 960 people lost power Friday afternoon when a car hit a power pole on Sherwood Drive and snapped the pole in half.
Lt. Justin Robinson said the car’s driver, Carla Jenkins, veered off the road and hit the pole.
Robinson said Jenkins was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police were on scene throughout much of the afternoon directing traffic away from downed live power lines that lay draped across the roadways. Robinson said police blocked off about one block of Sherwood Drive from Eastwood Road to Westwood Road.
Entergy Customer Service Manger Tim Runnels said Entergy crews worked to reroute power to all but 200 residents without power by 4:30 p.m.
Runnels said crews worked for approximately three hours to replace the pole after the downed power lines were moved and the car towed.
Power was expected to be fully restored to all residents Friday evening.
