Natchez absentee votes counted; results not affected

NATCHEZ — With just 295 absentee ballots cast in the city’s general election, Wednesday’s final count of absentees did not impact the final election results.

According to the official results, mayor-elect Larry L. “Butch” Brown received 73.8 percent of the vote with 2,806 votes. Independent Bill Furlow received 25.5 percent of the votes with 971 votes.

Republican Bob Buie, who withdrew from the race May 25 but was still on the ballot, received 27 votes.

Democrat Sarah Carter Smith defeated Ward 3 Alderman Republican incumbent Bob Pollard with 72.6 percent of the vote, or 788 votes. Pollard received 27.4 percent of the vote with 297 votes.

In Tuesday’s closest race, Ward 6 Alderman Democratic incumbent Dan Dillard reclaimed his seat on board of aldermen with 57.9 percent of the vote, or 429 votes. Dillard’s challenger, independent Forrest Foster, received 42.1 percent of the vote with 312 votes.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis, Ward 2 Alderman James “Rickey” Gray and City Clerk Donnie Holloway were re-elected in the city’s Democratic primary on May 1.

Ward 4 Alderman Ernest “Tony” Fields, Ward 5 Alderman Mark Fortenbery and Municipal Judge Jim Blough ran uncontested for re-election.

The new administration will take office on July 2.
