Head to Broadway in Vidalia Thursday

The Concordia Bank and Trust Co. and Concordia Parish Library invite you to a concert of the “Best of Broadway” with Terry Patrick-Harris and the LSU Musical Theater Troupe at 7 p.m. Thursday in the lobby of Concordia Bank in Vidalia.
LSU professor Terry Patrick-Harris, mezzo-soprano, studied at Louisiana State University and continued her training at the Juilliard School of Music.
Patrick-Harris, who now teaches at LSU, developed the Fundamentals of Musical Theatre Singing: Techniques and Repertoire in 1999 as an enhancement for the first-year master of fine arts acting students.
In 2001, the course became available to all students.
“Singo de Mayo” the annual Broadway Showcase, so named because the original performance occurred on May 5, or Cinco de Mayo, is comprised of musical theatre excerpts, which are sung, staged and choreographed by the students for their final presentations.
Recently, this 2012 production was performed to a sold-out crowd in the Shaver Theatre of the LSU Musical and Dramatic Arts Building.
Mason Griffin, a native of Baton Rouge and former LSU music student, who is now a musical theatre instructor at the New York Film Academy, returned home to conduct.
The students will be performing in Vidalia some of the all-time favorite Broadway hits, such as: “Anything Goes” from “Anything Goes,” “Let’s Hear it for the Boy” from Footloose, “Music of The Night” from “The Phantom of the Opera” and a medley from Jersey Boys including: “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and “Walk Like A Man.”
Being an alumnus of LSU, I know the university has always had an outstanding school of music. Concordia Bank welcomes the public to our bank lobby to enjoy outstanding musicians and performers.
Concordia Parish Library makes these concerts available to the public through grants from the division of the arts. I think this will be a fun evening for all to begin their summer!
Mark your calendars for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Concordia Bank Lobby in Vidalia, as Broadway comes to town with free tickets and a comfortable seat waiting for you!
John M. Taylor is a resident of Concordia Parish.
