NATCHEZ — Following some possible thunderstorms today, the clouds should open this weekend to offer sunny skies with temperatures in the 80s, according to the National Weather Service.
Here’s what is happening in the Miss-Lou this weekend.
Roxie Family and Friends Day
Families looking for entertainment for their children and health tips for mom and dad can attend the Roxie Recreation Department’s Family and Friends Day at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Square in Roxie.
Children’s activities will include sack races, a space jump, pole fishing, basketball and a jump rope contest.
Additionally, local medical professionals and vendors will hand out information on health issues, such as diabetes, organizer Hattie Covington said.
“There’s going to be a lot of good information,” Covington said.
A blood drive will also be on site.
Covington said this event is an effort to reboot the former Roxie May Fair, which has in recent years dissolved.
At least eight vendors with food and information will be at the festival, and potential vendors have until Friday to join the event.
For more information, call Covington at 601-597-5874 or Michelle at 601-322-7301.
Alcorn Pork Producer’s Field Day
Pork industry and barbecue enthusiasts can check out the annual Alcorn State University Pork Producer’s Field Day at 10 a.m. Saturday. The day will start with an event at the Ray Johnson Assembly Center, Extension and Research Complex on the Lorman campus. Following the event in Lorman, a free tour of the ASU Swine Development Center Farm in Church Hill will conclude with a barbecue.
“It is important for individuals to attend, because this is the one time in the year when we open up our facilities for producers and potential producers to learn practical swine production, the latest production techniques and demonstration skills of swine husbandry,” ASU Swine Development Center Director Michael Ezekwe said.
Hog producers, extension agents, faculty and research scientists, students, potential hog producers, community leaders and state representatives are encouraged to attend.
For additional information on the workshop, contact Dr. Ezweke at 601-877-3949 or Ezekwe@alcorn.edu.
Monterey High School Reunion
The Wolves invite all Monterey High School alumni to attend an all-classes reunion from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Monterey High School Gymnasium.
Saturday’s event is also the 50th anniversary for the classes of 1962 and 1961, since last year’s graduation anniversary of the 1961 class was cancelled because of the Mississippi River flood.
This year’s reunion also marks the state of Louisiana’s bicentennial and Monterey High School’s 105th year as a high school.
Catered lunch will be provided, and activities after lunch include door prizes.
Registration is $15, and registration fees can be made out to MHS Reunion Committee and mailed to Enola Young at 2753 Louisiana 906, Monterey, LA, 71354. Call 318-386-2365 for information.

Pilgrim Baptist Church Missionary Society will have its annual fellowship tea from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday with guest Sarah Manning. Refreshments will be served.
