Absentees reflect vote

NATCHEZ — The final count is done, and Larry L. “Butch” Brown defeated Phillip West by 556 votes Tuesday.
Election officials counted 327 absentee ballots Wednesday for the Democratic second primary.
Brown had 55 percent of the vote, or 2,873 votes. West had 45 percent of the vote, or 2,317 votes.
With absentee ballots, a total of 5,190 votes were cast, making official turnout 52 percent of the 10,660 registered voters.
A total of 4,366 votes were cast in the May 1 primary, of which 297 were absentee ballots.
Brown and West defeated incumbent Mayor Jake Middleton in first primary.
Brown will face Republican Bob Buie and independent Bill Furlow in the June 5 general election.
