NATCHEZ — The first Natchez Inc. tourism-related economic development project could soon be coming to the Natchez riverfront.
The Natchez Board of Aldermen met in executive session for 30 minutes Monday at a specially called meeting to discuss the prospective company.
Natchez Inc. Executive Director Chandler Russ and Mayor Jake Middleton remained tight-lipped about the prospect after the meeting because of confidentiality obligations.
Middleton said he could not comment on whether the prospective project would be related to the Magnolia Bluffs Casino on Roth Hill Road, but he said the company is a separate entity from Natchez Casino OpCo, formerly Natchez Gaming Enterprises.
Russ said tourism is not typically in Natchez Inc.’s scope of operations, but he said since the project is related to “tourism infrastructure,” Natchez Inc. is involved in the project.
“Our policy is we’re going to work on projects that are city- or county-related, so if there is a Natchez economic development project that is infrastructure-related, we’re going to be involved,” Russ said. “But I wouldn’t say we’re going to be involved in tourism promotion.”
Middleton said more information about the potential project may be available later this week.
The project could mark the sixth company Natchez Inc. has brought to Adams County since its inception less than two years ago.
Gov. Phil Bryant announced the most recent economic development in Natchez last week, partnership between Blain Sand and Gravel, a Mississippi company, and Fores North America, a Canadian company, to mine and process sand to be used by energy companies employing the hydraulic fracturing process. The companies will invest $34 million and create 60 jobs in Adams County.
