vidalia — One thousand dollars will be on the line, along with several of the Miss-Lou’s biggest bass, May 5, when the Pentecostals of the Miss-Lou brings back its bass tournament on Lakes Concordia and St. John.
After a one-year hiatus, the POML will host the tournament that was very successful in raising money for the POML youth group in 2010, associate pastor Jeremy Howington said.
“(The tournament) is something fun to do, a good way to meet new people and make some money for the young people,” Howington said.
The money from entry fees, which is $120 for each two-member team, will be split up and 80 percent will go back into the tournament, and the rest will go to the youth program, Howington said.
The winner of the tournament wins $1,000, while the second- and third-place finishers will receive prorated cash prizes, Howington said.
There will also be a big-bass payout for the largest fish.
Howington said the event is for the whole community, not just POML members, and he hopes to see the event continue to bring in more participants.
“I would like to see it continue to grow bigger and become more family-oriented,” he said. “We want to draw people from all around the region.”
Howington said the first tournament in 2010 was a learning experience, and he expects the participants to see changes this year.
“It’s bigger this year,” he said. “We know a little bit more about what we’re doing this year.”
Howington said a scheduling conflict stood in the way of POML hosting the event last year. He said many members of the community were disappointed, and he is excited about bringing the tournament back this year.
The tournament will count each team’s top five fish, and all fish will be catch and release, Howington said.
There will be door prizes and a drawing for a free boat provided by Bryan’s Marine, Howington said.
A complimentary fried catfish dinner will be provided for all participants.
Weigh-in will take place in the parking lot at POML.
Registration forms are located at Bryan’s Marine and POML. Registration will be accepted on the day of the tournament before the action begins.
